About

Focus on Income and Risk-Adjusted Returns

HPS European Corporate Lending Fund (HLEND-E) seeks to generate attractive risk-adjusted returns, predominantly in the form of current income, by curating a diversified portfolio of high-quality, senior secured, privately originated loans to established companies.

We aim to optimize risk-adjusted returns for our investors by seeking to emphasize first lien positions, robust contractual protections, a weighting towards non-cyclical industries, and a focus on middle and upper-middle market borrowers with established business franchises.

Because we generally invest in floating-rate loans with a relatively short average investment life, we believe our portfolio has the potential to be more resilient in an elevated interest rate or inflationary environment, relative to other fixed income investments.

Rigor and Discipline to Successfully Navigate Across Markets

We believe our investment approach is designed to deliver on our investment objectives – attractive risk-adjusted returns and a stable income stream. We seek to follow a highly disciplined approach to source, diligence, select, structure and manage the risk of the investments in our portfolio.

We take pride in the analytical rigor we seek to apply to our investments and work diligently to seek to mitigate potential risks. To this end we:

Focus on Established Companies

We seek to invest in middle to upper-middle market companies with resilient business models, experienced management, and long financial histories. We believe these firms generally exhibit more relative strength and stability, and competition can be narrower, as fewer lenders have the scale to provide these firms with comprehensive financing solutions.

Invest with Discipline

Since December 31, 2024, we have carefully analyzed more than 1,200 opportunities in Europe over the last five years.1 We seek to swiftly walk away from transactions that do not meet our return and risk criteria and believe the investments we choose not to do are as important as those we pursue.

Lead Transactions

We have led or co-led more than 90% of our investments,2 generally helping us perform more extensive due diligence and have more influence in negotiating contractual terms.

Emphasize Structural Protections

We aim to construct our financings for private companies with robust collateral protection and covenant packages.

Proactively Manage Risk

We seek to continually monitor and assess the performance of our investments so that we are in a better position to proactively identify, address and mitigate downside risk to underperforming investments.

Build Defensively Positioned Portfolios

We seek to build portfolios that are highly diversified by size of company, geography, and industry, with a greater weighting to what we believe to be non-cyclical businesses. Our investment strategy focuses on the most senior portion of the borrower’s capital structure and floating interest rates.
